Over 1,200 AENJ members, presenters and vendors gathered this year for professional development in New Jersey at AENJ’s annual Fall Conference. This years conference was clearly one of the best offered to our members!
Monday night, AENJ rolled out the red carpet for their annual celebration awards ceremony. AENJ presented over 20 awards to members and supporters of art education. The evening was enriched by a student art display by students of AENJ member and recipient of the master teacher award, JoAnn Onnembro.
Sandy Skoglund, Installation Artist, kicked off Tuesday with her keynote entitled Reality Under Siege. Following her presentation 50 members gathered to create an instillation under the direction of Sandy. It’s amazing what can be created with orange pipe cleaners, Chinese take out containers and tissue paper!
Wednesday’s keynote Marilyn Stewart, Professor and author, was full of enlightenment for teachers, asking them to open their eyes to the art that we express in our everyday lives.
Over the three days, teachers had the opportunity to view 140 amazing presenters and 45 hands-on workshops. AENJ Advisory Council & Division hosted a meeting focusing on Choice Base Learning by Ken Vieth. Special guests from Florida, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillian provide on going presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday including their special project, Pinwheels for Peace.
There were also four different art exhibits on display, including:
- The Palette Parade - Pallets designed by AENJ members
- Youth Art Month Displays - Featuring artwork from our 2006 State YAM Exhibit
- AENJ Calendar Exhibit - Featuring artwork on the AENJ 2007 Calendar
- Artsonia Exhibit - Featuring AENJ teachers with artwork published on Artsonia
Special events hosted by NASCO and Crayola & Sax gave teachers one more chance to grab a few more ideas to use back in their classrooms.
So many people worked so hard to make this the largest professional development event for art teachers in New Jersey. Thank you to all who made this event a success!
