SUMMARY:Art Educators Unite— I Am! Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Art Educators Unite— I Am!\n\nJoin educators for this ONLINE EVENT from National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) and Art Educators of New Jersey (AENJ) for a mini-series of synchronous\, online\, hands-on workshops. Learn how discussing and making works of art can support student learning and social emotional growth. These workshops connect to these Social Emotional Learning themes: “Connecting to Artist’s Self” and “Identity\, Place\, and Personal Growth.” \nWorkshop One: I Am! participants will take a closer look at the self by applying strategies that extend the use of social emotional vocabulary tied to awareness and understanding. They will consider the interplay between the self and social structures\, as well as the relationships created between them. Self-portrait bookmaking and writing prompts will engage participants in self-reflection and investigate multiple points of view. \nAs a participant\, you will: \n\nExplore and discuss artwork from NMWA’s collection.\nBe able to name #5WomenArtists.\nThink deeply about and practice the following Social Emotional Learning strategies:\n\nSelf-awareness\,\nSelf-management\,\nSocial awareness\,\nRelationship skills\, and\nResponsible decision-making.\n\n\nPractice Harvard Project Zero Thinking Routines to foster critical thinking skills.\nConsider cross-curricular and interdiscplinary lesson extensions literary\, history\, science and more applicable to your teaching context.\n\n  \nMore About National Museum of Women in the Arts \n \nThe National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is the only major museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts. With its collections\, exhibitions\, programs and online content\, the museum inspires dynamic exchanges about art and ideas. NMWA advocates for better representation of women artists and serves as a vital center for thought leadership\, community engagement and social change. NMWA addresses the gender imbalance in the presentation of art by bringing to light important women artists of the past while promoting great women artists working today. The collections highlight painting\, sculpture\, photography and video by artists including Louise Bourgeois\, Mary Cassatt\, Judy Chicago\, Frida Kahlo\, Shirin Neshat\, Faith Ringgold\, Pipilotti Rist\, Amy Sherald and Élisabeth Louise Vigée-LeBrun. \n\nNMWA is located at 1250 New York Avenue\, NW\, Washington\, D.C. For information\, call 202-783-5000\, visit nmwa.org\, Broad Strokes Blog\, Facebook\, Twitter or Instagram.

How have you modified an “oldie but goodie” lesson?\n11/14/20: Best Practices in Technology: How can we incorporate all of these platforms into our classroom without reinventing the wheel? What technology has been successful thus far\, and what can we live without?\n12/12/20: How to Make the Most out of Pandemic Teaching: Let’s regroup a bit. SUMMARY:AENJ Advisory Council for an open Zoom call to productively discuss art education
DESCRIPTION:AENJ Advisory Council for an open Zoom call to productively discuss art education\nYou asked we listened! Once again\, we invite you to join the AENJ Advisory Council for an open Zoom call to productively discuss art education. Our goal is to provide a platform for creative problem solving\, positive solutions\, and collaboration during this difficult time. This won’t be a place to complain – it will be a place to support each other and find solutions to many difficult challenges we are facing. \nWe will meet on the second Saturday at 10 AM via Zoom during October\, November\, and December. Please sign up below to be emailed the zoom link. Only the first 100 participants will be able to sign on to the call. \nYou can choose to attend for one week or all three weeks. Topics are listed below by week. \n\n10/10/20: Virtual Lesson Swap: Come with your favorite virtual lesson that you have taught! What has worked well for you? How have you modified an “oldie but goodie” lesson?\n11/14/20: Best Practices in Technology: How can we incorporate all of these platforms into our classroom without reinventing the wheel? What technology has been successful thus far\, and what can we live without?\n12/12/20: How to Make the Most out of Pandemic Teaching: Let’s regroup a bit. You’ve just spent four months teaching in a Pandemic\, something you couldn’t imagine doing in August. What are the things that you learned about yourself as a teacher? How has this experience shifted how we will continue to do things in the classroom?
