Learn about Uribe’s Plastic Coral Reef, which raises awareness of the disastrous impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems worldwide. Educators will use recycled materials to create colorful coral reef reliefs, which can be translated into a collaborative classroom project for students of any age or ability.
“Animalia” Federico Uribe at the Montclair Art Museum-Gallery Tour and Workshop, (one hour tour first and one additional hour working on a related art activity in the studio).
Federico Uribe is a Colombian born, Miami-based artist who creates animals out of found objects such a bullet shells and colored pencils. His art has multiple layers of meaning as he focuses on themes such as immigration, wildlife conservation, gun violence& ecology.
“Uribe’s Plastic Coral Reef made its debut at the 2019 Venice Biennale, and MAM is its second iteration, redesigned for our unique space. It comprises of hundreds of pieces of plastic waste, carefully cut and arranged, to raise awareness of the disastrous impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems worldwide. Educators will utilize recycled plastics, bottle caps, paper, cardboard, and more to create colorful coral reef reliefs, which can be translated into a collaborative classroom project for students of any age or ability.”
