Art Educators of New Jersey is a non-profit association created in 1939 by art educators interested in advocating for the visual arts education in our state. Our purpose is to promote and maintain the highest degree of quality Visual Arts instruction in New Jersey’s schools.
Our membership includes public and private school art teachers on every level, art supervisors, pre-service and in-service students, museum educators, nationally recognized authors, and those actively involved in national and international leadership in Art Education. Members come from every NJ county, rural, suburban, and urban areas, and teach at every grade level.
Our goal is to provide Art Education Leadership, Professional Development and Advocacy to members across the state.
To this end, AENJ provides its members with a variety of professional development and exhibition opportunities. These include but are not limited to:
- An annual conference featuring over 130 workshops and presentations, exhibitors, panels and guest speakers including internationally known artists;
- Breakfast and a Workshop where division award winners present Best Practice activities for the classroom;
- A variety of media driven workshops and artist/educator presentations and panels at key locations across the state, throughout the year can be found on our Events Page;
- Exhibition opportunities for teachers and their students such as: Youth Art Month (YAM), NJ Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), at NJEA, and Members’ Exhibitions.
- AENJ also provides funding opportunities for teachers and their students. These include HS Scholarships, Past President Scholarships for teachers, and a variety of grants for both teacher and students. For more information, check our Scholarships/Grants Page
